Legal Assistance for Vulnerable Detainees Project, Burundi

The Legal Assistance for Vulnerable Detainees project in Burundi focuses on minors and other vulnerable individuals in severely overcrowded and inadequate prison conditions. Beginning in 2026, this 12‑month initiative will train 15 magistrates and 15 police officers in humanitarian and human-rights law.

These trained professionals will advocate for vulnerable groups, improve detention conditions, and help secure the release of 15–20 minors where appropriate.

The project aims to strengthen the national judicial system, promote social reintegration, reduce recidivism, and ensure respect for human dignity in line with international standards.

Expected outcomes include greater awareness of detainees’ rights among judicial personnel and stronger cooperation between communities and justice institutions.

By giving to this project, you help the Church stand with “the least of these,” promoting justice, mercy, and the protection of children in Christ’s name.
