Burundi has always made efforts to consolidate peace, ensure security, and promote social cohesion centered on addressing the legacy of conflict through a combination of government initiatives and international support. However, challenges remain, including the historical perception among the population that presidential elections are an opportunity for disorder and insecurity within the country.
The Burundi project, titled “Peace consolidation, security, and social cohesion before, during, and after the elections of 2027,” will run from 2026 to 2028, targeting 20 political parties, 10 civil society organizations, 20 local officials, and 20 religious leaders.
It aims to enhance the capacity of these stakeholders to engage with the democratic election process while addressing the historical perception of elections as a period of disorder. The initiative will involve quarterly training sessions focused on democratic principles, nonviolent strategies, and citizen responsibilities, ultimately striving for a united community dedicated to peace and security during the election period.
The expected outcome is that 70 stakeholders will effectively apply these principles, fostering a cohesive and responsible citizenry.
Your support can help the Church and key leaders serve as a steady, Christ-like influence before and during the 2027 elections, promoting peace rather than fear and division.
