The Peacebuilding, Justice, and Reconciliation Program aims to foster healing, unity, and reconciliation among communities affected by the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi while enhancing access to justice through mediation and legal aid. This initiative focuses on repairing relationships between genocide survivors and former perpetrators, aiding their recovery from trauma, and rebuilding trust through forgiveness and remorse. Since 2003, ALARM has conducted numerous training and healing sessions that have significantly transformed lives. We aim to support reconciled groups through collaborative projects in construction, agriculture, and savings associations to promote economic independence.
Additionally, we will provide trauma healing and coping mechanisms for youth born to survivors and ex-prisoners, facilitating dialogues to foster mutual understanding and address intergenerational trauma. Our program also promotes mediation to peacefully resolve conflicts and offers legal assistance to vulnerable individuals to ensure dignified access to justice. Furthermore, we will organize a staff retreat to address compassion fatigue and strengthen resilience for continued service in emotionally demanding environments.
The project in Rwanda’s Bugesera District, titled “Integrating Peace and Reconciliation Initiatives,” aims to enhance community resilience and social cohesion among genocide survivors and ex-prisoners through trauma healing, mutual support, and dialogue (2026-2028).
The initiative will focus on mending relationships, providing legal aid, and promoting economic independence through collaborative projects.
Key objectives include reducing intergenerational trauma, improving access to justice, and establishing a community mediation room.
Expected outcomes involve strengthened household stability, increased awareness of mediation, and ongoing reconciliation efforts through community engagement.
Would you prayerfully consider giving toward this reconciliation initiative so that, by God’s grace, survivors and former offenders can continue to experience healing, justice, and restored fellowship in Christ?
