South Sudan continues to face intercommunal conflict, insecurity, and fragile justice systems that undermine social cohesion and trust. Prolonged violence has caused widespread trauma, displacement, and limited access to fair and impartial justice. Communities require structured support to heal, resolve conflicts peacefully, and rebuild relationships, while justice and security personnel need strengthened capacities to deliver rights-based and conflict-sensitive services.
The Integrated Peacebuilding, Justice, and Reconciliation Program in South Sudan aims to address intercommunal conflict, insecurity, and weak justice systems over 12 months, with a budget of $85,000. Targeting various community members and officials, the program seeks to foster healing, conflict resolution, and relationship rebuilding through community dialogues, trauma counselling, and training for justice and security personnel.
The goals include enhancing community engagement, providing psychosocial support, supporting transitional justice, and building the capacity of justice personnel.
Expected outcomes include improved community dialogue, effective trauma support for victims, the application of human rights practices by security personnel, documentation of transitional justice initiatives, and strengthened regional collaboration through the Great Lakes Institute program.
