We praise the Lord for the growing reach of mediation awareness through the presence and activities of ALARM Rwanda in local communities.
In Muhoza Sector, local leaders are increasingly incorporating mediation awareness into community gatherings. This progress follows collaboration with Inshuti z’Umuryango (IZU), Good Governance Officers, Cell Executive Secretaries, and lawyer-mediators who have received mediation training and certification with support from ALARM Rwanda.
On 21 July 2026, approximately 350 community members gathered in Ruhengeri Cell, Muhoza Sector, for a community meeting organized by local leaders.
The meeting covered several important issues affecting community well-being, including community health insurance, the 2026–2027 performance contracts (Imihigo), EJOHEZA, and a message from Transparency International Rwanda on preventing injustice and combating bribery.
Mediation awareness was also included on the agenda. The session was led by the Sector Good Governance Officer, who had participated in ALARM Rwanda’s mediation awareness and follow-up activities in Muhoza Sector.
The mediation session helped community members understand that mediation is a simple, affordable, and accessible way to resolve disputes peacefully.
Participants were also informed that ALARM Rwanda provides free mediation services to vulnerable people, helping them find peaceful solutions to disputes and improve their access to justice.
Following the awareness session,
- 5 individuals with ongoing disputes received immediate guidance on where and how to seek help
- 3 conflict cases were successfully resolved on-site.
The participation of community members seeking mediation support demonstrates the importance of bringing information and services related to justice and peaceful dispute resolution closer to the people.
By including mediation awareness in regular community gatherings, local leaders are helping more people understand the benefits of resolving disputes peacefully and where they can seek support when conflicts arise.
ALARM Rwanda is grateful for the continued collaboration of local leaders, community structures, and mediators in promoting peaceful conflict resolution and access to justice, particularly for vulnerable community members.
Through these efforts, mediation awareness continues to reach more people and contribute to stronger, more peaceful communities in Musanze District.
