Pastoral Leadership Training, Zanzibar

Pastoral Leadership Training, Zanzibar

Historically, Tanzania was colonized by Arabs. Hence, the majority of the people in Zanzibar are Muslim and few are Christians. As a minority group, sometimes they face challenges in freedom of worship. Most of the pastors are untrained with no theological background and have gone through a lot of trauma in fulfilling God’s work. Lack of leadership skills, theological training on how to become agents of forgiveness and reconciliation as God reconciles us to himself through Christ (1 Corinthians 5:18-20) results in the collapse of some churches, anger and hostility among members of the community, court battles on criminal cases and land matters. Consequently, there is a need for these pastors to receive pastoral training from the ALARM curriculum as it is designed to equip pastors to become ambassadors of peace building and reconcile the whole community. More so, to help them heal from the trauma and anger built inside them.

The Pastoral Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) in Zanzibar, implemented by the African Leadership and Reconciliation Ministry (ALARM), targets 50 pastors, with a budget of $30,000 over three years.

The project focuses on equipping untrained pastors, who often face trauma and community challenges, with skills in Christian doctrine, peace-building, reconciliation, and conflict resolution.

Given the historical context of Zanzibar’s Muslim majority and the minority Christian population, strengthening these pastors is crucial for fostering forgiveness, community healing, and enhancing the church’s role in local governance.

The expected outcomes include well-trained leaders, a strengthened church, increased believers, and a more influential Christian community. Would you prayerfully consider giving toward the $30,000 needed so these pastors can be firmly grounded in God’s Word and become Christ-like peacemakers in Zanzibar?
