IWE SCHOOL INAUGURATES THE NEW DORMITORY AFTER THE PREVIOUS FIRE INCIDENT.

The Institute of Women for Excellence (IWE) proudly announces the official inauguration of its new dormitory on April 9, 2026. This milestone reflects the school’s continued commitment to providing a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for girls’ education.

Constructed at a cost of over RWF 150 million, the new facility can accommodate up to 250 students. It is equipped with an on-site infirmary to provide basic medical care, as well as dedicated space for a matron to ensure students receive proper supervision and support.

This achievement follows a challenging period for the school community after a fire destroyed the previous dormitory on November 3rd, 2025. Although no lives were lost, the incident had a significant impact on students who relied on the facility for accommodation.

The reconstruction of the dormitory was made possible through the generous support of African Leadership and Reconciliation Ministries (ALARM), the Government of Rwanda, and other valued partners such as Rise Up Woman International, The Park Church and many other friends of ALARM. Their contributions have enabled the school to build a modern, improved facility that better serves its students.

Speaking at the inauguration, Bishop Maniragaba Esron, Vice President in charge of Development and Programs reflected on the journey:

“When the dormitory burned down, we were deeply saddened and uncertain about the future, especially for the girls who depended on it. Many students felt discouraged. However, thanks to the incredible support from the Government of Rwanda, ALARM partners worldwide.  we are proud to see a new and better dormitory standing today.”

The school leadership expressed heartfelt gratitude to all partners and supporters who stood with IWE during this difficult time. The new dormitory offers a comfortable and secure living environment, enabling students to focus more effectively on their studies.

In addition to improved accommodation, the facility enhances student welfare through better health services and improved living conditions for staff. The expanded capacity will also allow the school to welcome more students in the future.

Local education officials emphasized that a conducive living environment plays a key role in improving academic performance, as it supports better concentration and learning outcomes.

The Institute of Women for Excellence is a girls-only secondary school offering education from Senior One to Senior Six. The school remains dedicated to empowering young women through quality education, leadership development, and strong values.
