ALARM Rwanda Joins Rubavu District to Celebrate and Empower Rural Women

On October 15, 2026, ALARM Rwanda joined Rubavu District in celebrating the International Day of Rural Women in Mudende Sector, recognizing the contributions of rural women and highlighting efforts to strengthen their economic empowerment, dignity, and well-being.

The celebration brought together community members from Mudende, Bugeshi, and Kanzenze Sectors, local government and security authorities, development partners, and the Minister of Family and Gender Promotion, who attended as Guest of Honor.

Practical Support for Women and Vulnerable Families

The event highlighted tangible efforts to improve the lives of rural women and vulnerable households. Key activities included the legal formalization of marriages for 145 couples, the provision of a new house and household equipment to a vulnerable family, and the distribution of cows to 30 vulnerable families.

Economic empowerment was also a central focus. Two women’s cooperatives and ten individual women each received Rwf 1,000,000 in start-up capital to support their income-generating activities and strengthen their financial independence.

These initiatives represent important steps toward more stable households, improved livelihoods, and stronger communities. By supporting women with resources and opportunities, communities can help them build sustainable sources of income and contribute more fully to local development.

ALARM Rwanda’s Commitment to Justice and Peace

Beyond its financial contribution to the celebration, ALARM Rwanda continues to support communities in Rubavu through mediation services and legal orientation, offered mainly free of charge to vulnerable people, including women and children.

These services help individuals and families address disputes before they escalate, understand their legal rights, and pursue peaceful solutions to conflict. By improving access to justice and encouraging constructive conflict resolution, ALARM Rwanda contributes to stronger relationships, social cohesion, and more peaceful communities.

For women facing economic, family, or social challenges, access to mediation and legal guidance can be an important step toward protecting their rights and resolving conflicts without further harm.

Recognizing Partnerships That Strengthen Communities

The celebration also recognized Rubavu District partners for their contributions to the well-being and empowerment of rural women. The event concluded with a community fellowship and a group photograph bringing together local authorities and partners.

The occasion reaffirmed the importance of collaboration among local government, community members, and development partners in advancing women’s empowerment and supporting vulnerable families.

ALARM Rwanda remains committed to walking alongside communities through initiatives that promote peaceful conflict resolution, access to justice, and stronger, more resilient households.

When women have the resources to build their livelihoods, access to justice, and the support of their communities, the benefits extend beyond individuals to families and the wider community.
