ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT FOR WLTI GRADUATE WOMEN GROUPS

ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT FOR WLTI GRADUATE WOMEN GROUPS

At ALARM-Rwanda and Rise Up Women International, we believe that empowering women economically strengthens families, builds resilient communities, and creates lasting transformation.

The WLTI graduate women’s group in Musanze District continues to make significant progress in various areas of development. Through collective savings, entrepreneurship, and mutual support, the women are strengthening their livelihoods, expanding income-generating activities, and working toward greater financial independence. To further strengthen their initiatives, the women participated in an economic empowerment conference focused on family and business budgeting, avoiding unnecessary debt, identifying business opportunities, time management, and building confidence in their businesses. They also committed to strengthening their savings culture and adopting responsible borrowing practices to grow their business capital and improve financial management.

Small initiatives are creating meaningful change. One WLTI graduate, NYIRAMANA, used her group savings and a small loan to start selling household items and vegetables to support her family. In Western Province, the HUMURA MUGORE women’s group demonstrated the power of solidarity by providing food and start-up capital to a member who had lost her husband, helping her rebuild her livelihood and resume her income-generating activities.

The women continue to meet regularly to save, share God’s Word, develop vocational talents, and encourage one another. These efforts are strengthening financial discipline, business development, and community solidarity.

Despite this progress, the groups need continued training and capacity building to expand their initiatives. Priority areas include entrepreneurship and financial literacy, agriculture and animal husbandry, vocational skills such as tailoring, knitting, and hairdressing, conflict management, trauma healing, gender equality, and reconciliation.

Next plan will be to conduct a conference for the WLTI women’s group in Western Province, Nyagahinika, on Business and family budgeting, and small business identification. We are focused on strengthening the habit of saving and the constitution of capital for their own business.

Through these ongoing initiatives, ALARM and Rise Up Women International continue to support WLTI graduates in turning leadership into action, building sustainable livelihoods, and creating opportunities for themselves, their families, and their communities.
