WYLIE, TEXAS, USA — Rev. Célestin Musekura, Ph.D., ALARM’s President and CEO, guided the inaugural Peace Summit hosted by the Rotary Club of Wylie East Fork, a local club of Rotary International, on September 14, 2026.
Rev. Musekura guided the full-day event as its facilitator and sat on the expert panel that took questions on what peacemaking looks like day to day. Held at the Collin College Wylie Conference Center in Wylie, a city in North Texas near Dallas, the summit was built on a simple idea: meaningful change begins when people are willing to listen to one another.
Lori C. Villarreal, the event organizer and a member of the Rotary Club of Wylie East Fork, said he “provided wisdom, testimony, and guidance throughout the day as we explored what peace looks like in relationships.”

Shared language for hard conversations
Rev. Musekura opened the day with the Conflict Management Styles Assessment. The exercise gave participants common vocabulary, and they drew on it in discussions all day.
A story of forgiveness
Rev. Musekura shared how he forgave those who murdered members of his family during the 1994 Rwandan genocide, and the steps he took toward reconciliation.
He challenged participants to take the higher road in the face of injustice: initiate conversations, seek help and share resources, champion open dialogue, and humanize rather than demonize others. Doing nothing is not an option. Forgiveness, he said, is giving up the right to be right for a better future together.
Why this work matters in North America
As division grows and tension surfaces at city council meetings and community events, communities need practical tools for peace. ALARM leads in conflict prevention and teaches conflict management for individuals, families, organizations, and communities.
This is the same reconciliation work ALARM’s Frontline Staff carry out across Africa, now reaching neighbors in North America. Thank you to the Rotary Club of Wylie East Fork for inviting us. Learn more about the summit on the club’s website.
