On February 26, 2026, African Leadership and Reconciliation Ministries (ALARM-Congo) organized a workshop at the Central Prison of Kindu to raise awareness about the rights of arrested and detained persons, with special attention to women and youth in conflict with the law.
The session was led by Kazembe and Daniel Kilangalanga, who explained key legal protections such as the right to a fair trial, protection from arbitrary arrest, access to legal representation, and safeguards for vulnerable groups.

The activity brought together 545 participants, including detainees, prison staff, lawyers, and justice officials. Many detainees shared that it was the first time an Attorney General had personally visited the prison to engage with them, an interaction that strengthened trust and encouraged open dialogue.
During the discussion, detainees raised concerns about prolonged detention, pending cases, and limited access to legal support. These concerns were documented by ALARM-Congo for follow-up with relevant authorities.
This initiative reflects ALARM’s commitment to promoting justice, human rights, and reconciliation. The organization remains grateful to its donors and partners whose support makes these important efforts possible.
