Pastoral Leadership Training Institute, Kenya

The Pastoral Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) serves as a core initiative of ALARM, aimed at training untrained pastors over three years. The program employs a curriculum specifically tailored by ALARM, comprising twelve modules or units. These modules encompass, but are not limited to, the essentials of ministry, biblical comprehension, a synthesis of Christian theology, effective communication of the Word of God, Christian discipleship, conflict resolution and peacebuilding, leadership principles and development, as well as an understanding of Islam. The structure of the program is designed to afford pastors the necessary time to engage in their ministerial duties. To date, the Kisumu project has completed four modules, with six remaining; however, progress has been hindered due to insufficient funding.

Kisumu County is frequently affected by issues such as political marginalization, inter-ethnic tensions, corruption, and unemployment, rendering it particularly susceptible to conflict and injustice. Through PLTI, ALARM offers a holistic approach to development that aims to enhance pastoral leadership, equipping it to biblically and practically confront these challenges. ALARM’s established history in leadership and peacebuilding illustrates the Church’s essential role as an agent of transformation for both individuals and communities through the Gospel.

The Pastoral Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) in Kisumu, Kenya, is a three-year initiative by ALARM aimed at training 50 untrained pastors, with one year completed and two remaining. The program includes a tailored curriculum of twelve modules focusing on essential ministry skills, biblical understanding, effective communication, and conflict resolution, among other topics. Despite having completed four modules, progress has been hindered by funding issues.

The project seeks to enhance pastoral leadership in a region affected by political and social challenges, with the goal of equipping pastors to establish vibrant, culturally relevant congregations.

Expected outcomes include the graduation of all 50 pastors, improved ministry skills, the initiation of teaching sessions by graduates, and strengthened relationships with local churches, ultimately fostering reconciliation and transformation within the Kisumu community.

Your gift toward the $11,260 goal can help ensure these pastors complete their training and continue to bring the hope of Christ to their communities.
