KENYAWA WOMEN LEADERSHIP TRAINING, KAJIADO COUNTY

In April 2025, ALARM Kenya, in partnership with Rise Up Woman International, successfully conducted a three-day Women Leadership and Health Education training in Kenyawa, Kajiado County. The training is part of an ongoing three-year leadership program launched in January 2023, aimed at equipping local women with the knowledge and confidence to lead transformational change in their communities.

Building Knowledge and Confidence

Seventy women leaders drawn from 17 churches participated in the training, which focused on empowering them with a deeper understanding of:

  • Women’s identity and dignity
  • Health-related issues including reproductive health, menopause, and infertility
  • Harmful cultural practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), early child marriages, and gender-based violence
  • Biblical perspectives on gender roles and social transformation

The participants engaged in group discussions, presentations, and Q&A sessions, facilitated by experts from ALARM Kenya and Rise Up Woman International.

Engaging Men for Holistic Transformation

In a parallel one-day session, 50 male spouses of the participants were engaged in discussions on men’s health and the socio-cultural issues affecting families and communities. The session emphasized a Biblical understanding of gender roles and addressed social norms that perpetuate harmful practices.

Key Outcomes

  • Increased Awareness: Participants gained critical insights into the dangers of cultural practices like FGM and early marriage, and committed to being change agents within their communities.
  • Health Empowerment: The women were equipped with practical health education, including breast self-examination and the importance of cervical cancer screening.
  • Biblical Insight: Both women and men gained a deeper Biblical understanding of gender roles, fostering unity and shared responsibility in community leadership.
  • Cultural Transformation: The training sparked dialogue on shifting deep-rooted beliefs towards values that uphold human dignity and health.

Looking Ahead

As the cohort prepares for graduation in August 2025, the impact of this program is already evident in the participants’ commitment to creating healthier, safer, and more informed communities. ALARM Kenya extends heartfelt thanks to Rise Up Woman International for their continued support and partnership in transforming lives in the Kenyawa region.
